Our Big Trip

We packed Chase and the dogs up for a trip up north to visit our families and friends. Chase was a champ traveling- sleeping in the car for 3 hour stretches, taking a bottle in the car, loving being held by family and friends, getting dressed up, and overall being a great baby. Mueller and Madison have also dealt well with the traveling, handling the trauma of new places and faces and some doggie- and kitty-loving kids.

We visited Godmother Kim and Matt:

Kim looks like a pro!

We spent time with big cousins, Amelia:

...and Owen "Crash" Lamont

Went to the pool with Amelia and Owen

Stephen "swam" with Amelia:

Father-son dressing by the Andrews and Lamonts (which we hope to continue for another generation!)

Ray and Amelia with Chase. Chase looks so small next to Ray!

Stephen and the baby boys. It's hard to believe that Chase will be Owen's size by this time next year.

Owen and Chase sharing the blue and blue style with Uncle Geoff:

Chase met Uncle Bilello

Chase enjoyed checking out the baby in the mirror

He got wrapped up in his ducky towel after his bath

And dressed up in a polo shirt like the ones his Daddy wears

And he even got a little crabby...

More pictures to come!

5 weeks

I realize that I write this every week, but wow, what a difference a week makes. Chase was fussy and unhappy last week, but made it through his growth spurt and is once again an adorable happy baby.

On Monday we went to the Dr for Chase's 4 weeks appointment and he was 8lbs 10oz! That's almost 2lbs in under 3 weeks. Good job, Chase & Mommy!

He's also noticeably more aware and interested in the world around him. He's awake longer, looking around, smiling, and cooing at us and his toys.

Packing for our big trip:

Hanging with Grandma Joan:

And Uncle Douglas:

Worn out from a medal-winning day of math. We told you he was advanced:

He even did some underwater explorations:

Tummy time!

A smile!

Chase at 1 month!

Chase is 1 month old and growing more every day. Not only are his newborn-sized clothes getting tight, but he's also eating for a long time much more often, so we think he's going through a growth spurt. Unfortunately, he's very frustrated with the fact that supply is not keeping up with demand so he has been a very fussy baby the past few days. He's not napping as long and was up for 2 hours straight on Tuesday night. He even gets frustrated when I try to burp him in the middle of a feeding. All of this has made for a very tired and fussy Mommy as well. No one told us that the first two weeks were easy compared to the next 2-4. We thought the beginning would be the worst, but they were relatively easy and gave us false confidence. It's much more difficult now. All you parents-to-be heed this warning!

In honor of this special occasion, here are some things that Chase does that we love:
-He smiles...sometimes. We're afraid he's forgotten how with all his frowns this week!
-He opens his mouth and bangs it against a shoulder or boob when he's hungry
-He makes all different faces and expressions when he's falling asleep
-He loves sleeping between us and cuddles with us in bed
-He loves the bath but hates getting out
-When he's about to poop or spit-up, he grunts. Sometimes he spends a half hour grunting and we try to figure out what's wrong. Then he poops or spits up and we remember that we should know this by now.
-He's losing his hair and has a receding hairline
-He likes to sleep against our chests and falls asleep when riding in the Moby wrap
-After being burped, he snuggles into our necks

On Wednesday we celebrated the 4 week milestone by having dinner with Chase:

And now, some overdue pictures of our little man.

Chase update

Chase is making eye contact and has flashed a handful of smiles at us and at the world in general. We've tried to capture them (pardon the poor picture quality- I was in a rush to get the pics and didn't adjust the settings before snapping)

Looking at the camera:

Almost a smile:

This morning he was smiling at the stars in his Pack N Play. Naturally I missed the smile, but captured him gazing:

And cooing at the stars:

Yesterday he had his first bottle and chugged it down like a champ. Stephen loved the bonding time.
