Party planning is underway for the 1st birthday celebration. I'm sure there will be many, many posts about it. Let's put it this way: Our future children will be jealous of what Chase got for his first birthday...
But we're getting ahead of ourselves. At 11 months, Chase is:
-Still mostly crawling, but starting to cruise. He loves when we hold his hands and help him walk and we go back and forth across the living room. He pushes his cart all over the place (on his own). He's got a track from the front door to the kitchen sink that he likes to repeat. Nasya was over this weekend and they were pushing each other around in the cart. So funny!
-Climbing onto and off of everything:
-More and more vocal- he has a baby language that he babbles in. It's a lot of ba, da, blah (still no Mama) but he makes intonations like he is talking. It's so funny. He'll start making noises if we're talking as if he were joining the conversation. He calls his Daddy "Da" and uses "Ba" indiscriminately (as far as we can tell).
-Working on his fine motor skills. He doesn't quite have the pincher grip yet, but that does not keep him from eating Cheerios. He can easily move them in his fist to get them into his mouth. Chase has also gotten better at manipulating his toys with his hands as well. AND he does some of the gestures for itsy bitsy spider and the wheels on the bus.
-Speaking of recognizing songs, Chase also recognizes the words for books and toys. He will retrieves his favorite books and toys when we ask for them- ducky, the wheels on the bus book, Elmo, the popper.
-(almost) has 8 teeth! Four on the top, two in the center on the bottom, and the bottom left one is through his gums. The bottom right one is working its way in. This has made for a fussy boy who is not interested in eating solids.
-Insisting on feeding himself, somewhat successfully. He pretty much only eats well at two meals per day. His favorite food, by far, is cheese. He also loves broccoli, hummus (hard to feed himself), quesadillas, Cheerios, and asparagus. Since he only likes to feed himself, he's not eating the foods that we used to feed him such as yogurt, mashed pears, spinach, and mashed potatoes. It also seems like he's eating a lot less than he used to. Our pediatrician said this is normal and that we should trust that he will get enough food.
-Chase has also become very opinionated lately- he lets us know when he does not want to do something, often by arching his back and crying. He climbs up on our legs if he wants us to pick him up. It's really amazing to watch his personality and communication skills develop, even if he uses them to yell at us.
-Checking out babies- He's become very interested in babies and pays almost as much attention to them as he does to kids. Maybe he's confused by the noises they make or the way they move?
-Still a major flirt. Naturally.
And now some pictures...
